The Manor Bindery was created in 1976 by a group of friends with a common passion for books and fine binding.
They brought together a small team of craftsmen, expert in binding and restoring antiquarian books to The Manor of Cadland from were the company gets its name.
Nestling between the Solent and The New Forest its workshops were once used by the estates blacksmith and wheelwright. So it was fitting for another craft to continue the traditional use of these historic buildings.
Unusually for this day and age, the main group of craftsmen has not changed in over 27 years. However the company has expanded and diversified into new and interesting fields.
One of which being the manufacture of false books. Some might say this unusual but the use of false books to conceal doors is as old as bookbinding itself, and naturally bookbinders have always been asked to make them.
Demand increased to the point that new ways of manufacture had to be invented. With their vast amount of knowledge and expertise they are now able to make the most amazingly detailed and historically correct false books.
The Manor Bindery has a world-wide customer base, many of which have been with the
company since its start. Looking after its customers and making sure the work is executed
to the highest standards is the way the company has always operated and continue to do so.
